I got Bad Houses, by Sara Ryan & Carla Speed McNeil, in my latest DCBS order, and it was even better than I expected it to be.
I haven’t read much of Ms. Ryan’s work - though the few mini-comics of hers that I have read I have thoroughly enjoyed - but I have been a fan of McNeil’s work for many years now.  And as soon as I saw this was going to be published by Dark Horse, I knew I had to add it to the collection.
Ryan & McNeil craft a compelling story about real people seeking a way out of the solitude we all experience, despite being surrounded by friends and loved ones, and they do not talk down to their audience.  You need to be paying attention to keep all the actors straight and to make the small connections these two artists slip into the gutters.  This was an engaging, involving book that I look forward to re-reading.
